UNBOXED Creative Sessions bring Dubbo’s creative community together every Thursday evening at the Black Box Theatre, located at the Western Plains Cultural Centre. Supported by Dubbo Regional Council and Studio 138, this initiative provides a platform for local artists, performers, and creatives to develop, collaborate, and showcase their work.
What is UNBOXED?
UNBOXED Creative Sessions offer a mix of workshops, rehearsals, play readings, open mic nights, film screenings, music performances, and more. Each session is unique, driven by the ideas and passion of our local creative community.
- Casual & Inclusive – Open to creatives of all experience levels.
- Flexible & Varied – Sessions range from skill-building activities to public performances.
- Community-Led – Run by local artists, groups, and organisations.
On the last Thursday of every month, UNBOXED features a public live performance—whether it’s theatre, music, spoken word, or another creative showcase.

Host a Creative Session (Expressions of Interest)
Are you a local artist or organisation looking for space to develop or present your work? The Black Box Theatre is available for free or ticketed activities on Thursdays from 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM. There is no fee involved in the hire of the space as part of the program.
The embedded calendar will give you an indication of available dates.
What’s provided?
- Access to the Black Box Theatre for your session
- Use of technical equipment (operators not provided)
- Promotion via the UNBOXED program
What’s required?
- A commitment to leaving the space tidy
- A simple post-event/activity report
- An orientation/induction before using the venue
